ISETTA WORLD

BORN IN BRESSO - The origins

The extraordinary Isetta, the nicest and famous microcar of the world, was conceived by the mind of eng. Ermenegildo Preti, who together with the faithful & expert Pierluigi Raggi gave the shape of this glorious little-big vehicle. Exhibited for the first time in 1952 at Bresso (Milan), it was produced by the Iso firm where Preti and Raggi were in charge of the Technical Office. The Isetta got its maximum international sales success with BMW, the great Bavarian factory that purchased the license for the production of the mythic “egg with wheels” in 1955 from the Rivoltas.

ISETTA RAID coast-to-coast through South America

Imag0024.jpg (33541 byte)

15 Isettas in total, 7 from Uruguay, 1 from Argentina, and 5 from Chile, the Uruguayans made the longest trip 2.500km across Uruguay, Argentina and Chile, the Argentinian Isetta join us in Buenos Aires 400km later, and the Chilean Isettas made the cross from Santiago to Mendoza and back, like 600km total distance for them. The Uruguayans cross from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific in Viña del Mar.

The trip started the 8th of January arriving to Santiago de Chile one week later, two days later we arrived Viña del Mar, and two days later we send all the Isettas back to Montevideo in a truck, except the Argentinian Isetta that was send to Mendoza and then to Buenos Aires. Two of the Uruguayans Isettas didn´t make it due to major engine problems, and two of the Chilean Isettas didn´t make it too, due to major engine problems too (those BMW engines !!!). The final analysis was a great adventure across South America during 15 days, spending a lot of oil, sleeping just a few hours a day, fixing the Isettas some other hours and all finished with a lot of good friends thanks to the Isetta spirit !!
